We leave after an early breakfast and by lunchtime we arrive at Kitugala and the Black River where the film “The Bridge over the River Kwai” was made. We first have lunch and then we get into the boats and then we let go. Two hours later we get out of the boats and continue our trip. By dinner time we arrive at Adams Peak . We have dinner and rest in our hotel before we start the climb sometime around midnight . The climb to the top takes about 5 hours and we are going to be there in time to welcome the Sun at one of the most spectacular places in the world. Once we are down again we have breakfast and then we set out for Dalmanuta.

We leave Dalmanuta at 6 am and we go north to Kandy. The road passes through the countryside and we can have a look at different cultivations. In Pinnawala we visit the elephant orphanage and have lunch. We arrive in Kandy around 17:00 and after checking in at our hotel we visit the famous Tooth Temple before we sit down for some Devil Dancing and later on dinner. After breakfast we set out for our drive to Mahiyanganay, a 2,5 hour spectacular drive on serpentine roads with a magnificent view. Once we passed Mahiyanganay the road continues into the jungle and our goal, Dambana. This is where we will find and meet the Vedda people, Sri Lankas own aboriginals. Most people dress in leaves and wears traditional weapons like axes and bows. We will probably be offered to taste there bee honey and special fruits in return for a donation. On the way back to Dalmanuta we stop for lunch in Mahiyanganay and a visit to the Victoria Dam.

The Yala Safari, Galle and Hikkadua

We leave Dalmanuta at 6 am and head south on the Galle road. We stop for a visit at the Turtle Farm and by the coral reef in Hikkaduwa. You can go snorkelling if you like, but you can also see it all from the glass bottom boat. Once we are back on land we continue to Matara where we will visit the Big Temple and the Pole Fishermen. We stop in Tangalle for a stroll on the beautiful beach and we arrive at our hotel in Tissamaharama in time lunch. At 3 pm we get into the Jeeps and the safari starts. For the next three to four hours we will be back in the original nature hoping to see Elephant, deer, monkey, crocodile, wild boar, peacock and many other birds and if we are very lucky we might also see leopard and black bear as they come to the waterhole at sunset. We will stop and get out of the jeep for a while down at the beach before we get back to “civilization” for our dinner at the hotel. After breakfast we leave for Galle where we will take a walk at the waterfront, visiting the old fort and have lunch. Leaving Galle we can stop for visits at the moon stone mine, the batik and the wood carving factory before we are heading back to Dalmanuta.
